Framework of Three Services Provides Automation Features Needed to Extend IaaS Platforms for Internal Clouds

AUSTIN — March 1, 2011 — MomentumSI, a leading IT services and solutions company, today announced Tough software solutions – a framework of three software services designed to provide organizations the agility of the Amazon cloud, but in the comfort of their own datacenters. The combined services are designed to help companies reduce operational overhead by automating the management of infrastructure and applications running on their internal clouds.

All of the services in the Tough solutions framework are interoperable with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This interoperability enables organizations to more easily migrate applications from private cloud to public or vice-versa. The framework consists of the following three solutions designed to offer traditional functionality, but in an “as-a-Service” model:

• Tough Load Balancing – automatically distributes incoming application traffic across multiple machines
• Tough Cloud Monitoring – monitors the health of your cloud services across thousands of machines in multiple data centers or cloud providers
• Tough Auto Scaling – allows you to automatically acquire and release machines based on activity levels

The services help companies obtain a new level of efficiency by enabling their lifecycle to be centrally managed and controlled. Provisioning, deprovisioning, configuration and inventory management is centrally automated to optimally manage resources. Conversely, the as-a-Service model enables an organization to decrease cycle-time by giving authorized end-users the ability to control the services via an on-demand model. The as-a-Service paradigm is considered the best of breed: enabling end-user agility, while avoiding the misallocation of resources.

Tough services are designed to work with multiple IaaS platform providers. Eucalyptus and VMware vCloud Director are the first two platforms supported. The services can be used with cloud solutions managed in a company’s internal datacenter or through an external hosting provider.
